Finished Preemie Hats

>

This fall and winter has been delightful for Cheryl and myself as we've taught the basics of crocheting to four young ladies. Unfortunately Ann couldn't join us for our outing because she was sick. She missed going to the hospital, the library and then home with Chick Filet to watch "Little Women". And all this on a school night, too!! (We did our homework first in our stitching room at Mitchell Road Christian Academy).

Congratulations to Faye, Madison and Gala for making five hats each and getting to pick rewards for their effort. And we know there will be some tiny babies and their moms who will keep these hats forever...

A Visit to Meet 'Barbie'

Here's a picture of a few of the HalfKnits on a short, spontaneous trip to see Barbie (Nancy Fisher) at a nearby WalMart! This was another fun memory even though we only ate at the lunch counter there. What's more important, though is that Caroline actually crocheted her own poncho - it's the blue one - left click on the photo and you'll see it even better. Fantastic! Since then she has done other things including a whole adult-sized afghan for her mom's couch!! (She found time even though she does a LOT in life!)

More proof that we can all find a little time in our days/weeks for stitching! It's a lot more rewarding than a lot of things us ladies do (there's not as much lasting satisfaction in washing clothes or dishes for instance!)

These young ladies are beginning to see the joy of creating things for themselves but also in giving to others (like these sweaters that were stitched for an orphange somewhere).

Teaching some of these things is OUR joy - Marijke & Cheryl

A Very Tasty Trip: Strawberry Picking, Egg Gathering and Ice Cream!

Stick with the Halfknits if you want to turn 'ordinary' trips into special ones!!

Last year a simple strawberry picking outing ended in a trip to the barn for egg gathering followed by some homemade ice cream - thanks to Nancy Fisher.

It's true that the simplest things in life are often the best!

Stitch-ins to Remember

I just thought I'd post some group shots of other 'stitch-ins' from the past. It's always a lot of fun when a group of ladies (young or old) get together to work on projects! It's even funner to go on an outing (see next post).

Random Writings

I couldn't resist blogging this little guy's picture - these were the hats that the previous HalfKnits made. I wonder how many of them have ever read this book? I must try to get it from the library. Wow - our trip will be in just over three weeks! April 27th, to be exact and then we'll take a break for the summer. Some of these girls will be able to try some simple patterns on their own over the summer but it won't be long when we'll be back together again - and will be making some Xmas ornaments! (Our last group energetically decorated a whole Christmas tree a couple of years ago but C & I aren't up to that again, unfortunately!!)
P.S. We don't sell the hats!

Speaking of Hats & Things

After making bags in two colors (in order to learn how to keep the rows straight), the girls learned how to work in the round. And all the while they are learning to read crochet patterns!

Anyway, they have now created enough preemie hats to warrant a trip to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the hospital where we will deliver them to needy newborns! Of course that's not all we will do on our little outing - keep posted to this post! - M & C

P.S. Faye only had a few lessons when she went home and made a little sweater for her cow - she's a natural!

Moms, Sisters, Friends - Spring, 2005

Girls of all ages love a garden party, don't they? Especially if we can dress up a bit!!
